Top 10 startup investors and incubators in Sweden

We run an early-stage AI startup in Sweden ourselves. These are the ten players founders here actually look at — what they do, who they suit, and how applying works.

If you're building something early in Sweden, capital isn't the hard part to understand — the map is. Incubators, accelerators, angels, state-backed venture capital and private VC do very different jobs, and applying to the wrong one first mostly costs you time. Here are the ten players that usually matter, ordered by how early they come in.

Incubator, accelerator or VC — what's the difference?

An incubator helps you become a company: structure, advice, desk space and network, often over a long period and sometimes without taking equity. An accelerator runs a time-boxed programme, usually with capital in exchange for a stake, aimed at making you fundable afterwards. Venture capital buys a share of the company so you can grow faster than cash flow allows.

  • Idea to first prototype: incubator, student incubator or an angel network.
  • Prototype with first users: accelerator or pre-seed fund.
  • Proven demand and an early revenue curve: seed VC.
  • Repeatable growth: Series A and beyond.
Tip:Don't spray applications in every direction at once. It shows in the pitch, and most of the players below talk to each other. Pick two or three that match your stage and do them properly.

Top 10: investors and incubators in Sweden

This isn't a ranking of "best" — it's ordered so the earliest stages come first. Always check current terms on each site before applying; programmes, funds and application windows change.

  1. Impact · house, community and funds · Stockholm

Norrsken gathers impact startups in a physical house in Stockholm and also runs investment activity aimed at companies solving societal problems at scale. Suits you if you can articulate a clear social or climate impact alongside the business. Even without investment, the community and events are one of the fastest routes into the Swedish startup network.

  2. Incubator & accelerator · early stage · Stockholm

One of Sweden's most established incubators, with programmes from idea stage to companies about to raise their first round. You get coaching from people who have built companies, access to an investor network, and a structure that forces customer contact early. Suits tech companies aiming to scale internationally.

  3. Day-zero VC · pre-seed · Stockholm and global

Antler accepts founders before the company exists — you can apply without a co-founder and without a product. The programme is about forming teams and validating ideas, and companies that make it through receive a first cheque against an equity stake. Suits high-potential founders without a finished company. Applications run continuously per city; choose Stockholm.

  4. Student incubator · idea to first customer · Stockholm

The Stockholm School of Economics incubator for students, alumni and researchers. A free route in if you're still studying or recently graduated, with workspace, mentors and an alumni network that is disproportionately strong in Swedish business. Requires a connection to the school.

  5. Incubator · early stage · Malmö/Öresund

Malmö's startup house and incubator, with programmes for early companies and a natural bridge towards Copenhagen. Suits you if you're based in southern Sweden and want a local community rather than commuting to Stockholm for every meeting. Competition for places is often lower than in the capital.

  6. State co-funded venture capital · pre-seed to seed · nationwide

One of Sweden's most active early investors by deal count, with regional presence across the country. Almi Invest invests alongside private investors — they rarely go in alone, so you need a co-investor lined up. You can pitch directly through their form with a deck.

  7. VC · pre-seed to seed · Nordics

A Nordic fund focused on early digital companies, often with an AI or data-driven core. The right size when you're too late for an accelerator but too early for the large funds. Short decision paths and close to founders.

  8. VC · seed to Series A · Stockholm, Berlin, San Francisco

One of Europe's best-known funds, with a portfolio including several Nordic companies everyone has heard of. They invest early but expect either exceptional growth or an exceptional team. The best route in is a warm introduction from someone in their portfolio.

  9. VC · seed to growth · Stockholm and global

The venture arm of EQT, able to follow a company from an early round all the way to later growth capital. Suits companies with clear traction and a market large enough to justify big cheques. Expect a more institutional process.

  10. Matchmaking · startups meet corporates · nationwide

Not an investor, but it earns a spot: Ignite matches startups with large companies and public bodies looking for solutions. For a B2B startup a paying pilot customer is often worth more than early investment — and it makes the next investor conversation far easier.

What do they actually look at in an early pitch?

At the earliest stage there are no numbers to model. What decides is whether the team is credible for this specific problem, whether the problem is real enough that someone already pays for a worse solution, and whether there's a reason it's buildable now. That last point is underrated — "why now?" is often the question separating a yes from a polite no.

  • Team: why you, and what have you already shipped without money?
  • Problem: who hurts, how often, and what does it cost them today?
  • Why now: which technology, regulation or behaviour change makes this possible only now?
  • Market: can this get big, or is it a good lifestyle business?
  • Traction: anything measurable — users, waitlist, pilot, revenue.

How to prepare the pitch — and rehearse it

A pitch rarely fails on the deck. It fails on the follow-up questions: how do you make money, what happens when an incumbent builds this, why is churn so high in month three. Those come fast, and you have seconds.

We originally built our interview coach for job interviews, but it works just as well for pitch practice: describe the role — "investor at a Nordic seed fund" — paste your pitch, and get sharp follow-up questions by voice in real time. The AI can also see your screen or deck through the camera and comment on what it reads. Cheaper than burning a real meeting on rehearsal.

Good to know:A common mistake: rehearsing the pitch silently to yourself. An investor meeting is a conversation, not a monologue — practise the interruptions, not the delivery.

What we're building — and why we wrote this

aifixly is a Swedish real-time AI that sees through your camera, hears your voice and answers instantly. Fourteen specialised experts — from physio and cooking to maths tutoring and interview practice — all sharing one core: an AI looking at the same thing you are, talking to you while you do it.

We're going through exactly the mapping described above right now. If you're an investor, angel, or work at one of the players listed here, our investor page is one click away — and you can try the product without an account before getting in touch.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between an incubator and an accelerator?
An incubator helps you build the company over a longer period, often from idea stage and sometimes without taking equity. An accelerator runs a short, intensive programme with a clear end date and usually takes a stake in exchange for capital and support.
Does joining an incubator cost money?
Rarely in cash. Most Swedish incubators are wholly or partly publicly funded and charge no fee, while accelerators and day-zero funds take equity instead. Always read the terms before signing.
Can you apply to Almi Invest and a private VC at the same time?
Yes, and that's largely how it's meant to work. Almi Invest normally invests alongside private investors rather than alone, so a private co-investor strengthens your application rather than competing with it.
Do you need a finished product to apply?
Not everywhere. Antler accepts founders before the company exists, and several incubators work at idea stage. Pure VC funds generally want to see something built and a few users.
Do you need a warm introduction to a VC?
It helps considerably at the larger funds, where cold inbound is enormous. Almi Invest and most incubators, however, have open application forms where cold applications genuinely get read.
How much equity does an early investor take?
It varies with stage and cheque size, and the rules of thumb that circulate rarely fit your case. Ask directly about equity, valuation and terms early — a serious counterpart answers without hedging.
Do you have to be in Stockholm?
No. Almi Invest is present regionally across the country, Minc covers the Öresund region, and most funds take meetings remotely. Stockholm has the densest network, but it doesn't decide whether you get funded.
What's the best way to rehearse for an investor meeting?
Practise the follow-up questions, not the delivery. Have someone interrupt you mid-sentence, or use a voice-driven AI interview coach where you describe the counterpart as an investor and run the pitch out loud several times.
